Apr 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Leader of Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Sajith Premadasa says the country today has an obstinate government that is rife with corruption and theft.

The Leader of the Opposition said that the ruling family has become a leader for plundering the state property and state resources and that such a country will not move an inch forward.

The Opposition Leader said that this family government was fully responsible for the devastation that befell the country today and that the money looted by them and hidden in various countries would definitely be recovered all and those thieves would definitely be punished.

Mr. Premadasa said for all the people who are struggling in this country, the opposition guarantee that the all necessary arrangements will be made for the abolition of the executive presidency and necessary steps will be taken to defeat the government and the President through a no-confidence motion and an impeachment motion. He said that steps would be taken to reverse the Twentieth Amendment and establish the Nineteenth Amendment.

The Leader of the Opposition said the people’s demands were in complete agreement with the policies of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya would actively become their voice.

The Leader of the Opposition said that the struggle for democracy would continue unabated for the removal of the disgraceful regime led by the President from this country and that he was committed to giving the country democratic victories.

The Leader of the Opposition said that despite the queues all over the country, the government was preparing to place orders for aircraft, adding that large scale corruption was taking place through the construction of highways.

The Opposition Leader made these remarks at an event held Friday (15) to donate over Rs. 2.1 million worth of medical equipment to the Akkaraipattu Panamkadu Regional Hospital in Ampara District.

Essential medical equipment worth Rs. 2,134,400 were donated as 48th round of the social hospitality program implemented by ‘Jana Suwaya’ project with a view to creating a healthy nation parallel to ‘Samagi Jana Balawegayen Husmak’ program implemented as a concept of Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa.

Among the items donated were 2 Pulse Oximeters each worth Rs. 169,000, 2 Multipara Monitors each worth Rs. 375,000, ECU Bed worth Rs. 420,000 and an Autoclave machine worth Rs. 626,400.

‘Samagi Jana Balawegayen Husmak’ program is implemented by the group of Members of Parliament, organizers, members, foreign branches, local and foreign donors of Samagi Jana Balawegaya in collaboration with ‘Jana Suwaya’ Project in order to provide health relief to people affected by COVID-19 disaster.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya took action to donate hospital equipment worth over Rs. 126.8 million so far in 47 rounds of this program.
