Manipal Hospitals on Friday announced a collaboration with Isansys Lifecare for an initiative focused on tracking high-risk and vulnerable patients in care areas using the Isansys Patient Status Engine. The Patient Status Engine (PSE) is utilised for wirelessly and remotely monitoring and managing patients who are borderline sick and require constant status updates of their health condition from their doctors.

According to the hospital, many patients are marginally ill, but they require constant health monitoring. PSE will allow both doctors and nurses to monitor patients on an ongoing basis beyond the intensive care unit, resulting in cost reduction. This system is presently installed in the wards of Manipal Hospitals and will be extended to all the units in the future.

“We are the first in India to deploy this advanced solution (Patient Status Engine) in our hospitals that will alert us if the patient’s health deteriorates. This platform displays changes in the parameters that require prompt medical treatment or intervention,” said Karthik Rajagopal, COO, Manipal Hospitals.

The hospital said, In addition to minute-by-minute EWS (Early Warning Score), which is live streamed to the central monitoring station and the mobile phones of the caregivers’ team, the device will allow hospitals and doctors continuously track patients’ basic vitals, such as heart rate, temperature, saturation, blood pressure, and ECG.

The hospital says the device will be made available at all healthcare chain locations in an upcoming phase of the plan, with a focus on lower-level institutions that do not have such monitoring equipment.
